The ETH Zurich Excellence Scholarship & Opportunity Programme supports outstanding students beginning an eligible Master’s degree at ETH Zurich. Selected scholars receive financial support, a full tuition-fee waiver, mentorship and access to the ETH Foundation network.

ETH Zurich ESOP Scholarship 2027 About the ETH Zurich ESOP Scholarship
The Excellence Scholarship & Opportunity Programme, commonly known as ESOP, is ETH Zurich’s flagship scholarship for outstanding students applying for a Master’s degree.
The programme combines financial support with mentorship and access to the ETH Foundation network. It is intended for applicants who have achieved excellent results during their Bachelor’s studies and are applying to start a new Master’s programme at ETH Zurich.
ESOP is not available for Bachelor’s, doctoral, PhD or Master of Advanced Studies programmes. It is specifically offered to eligible Master’s applicants.

What the Scholarship Covers
ESOP provides support for the regular duration of the selected Master’s programme, normally three or four semesters.

ETH Zurich ESOP Scholarship 2027 Eligibility Requirements

| Academic performance | Applicants should have achieved results within approximately the top 10% of their Bachelor’s programme, equivalent to grade A. |
| Previous degree | Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree or be completing their final Bachelor’s year. |
| Current students | Applicants already enrolled in an ETH Zurich Master’s programme are not eligible. |
| Master’s degree holders | Applicants who already hold a Master’s degree are not eligible. |
| Application round | The ESOP application must be submitted during the first ETH Zurich Master’s application window. |
| Interview availability | Candidates must remain reachable by telephone or video call because the selection process may include an interview in February. |

Required Documents
Applicants must provide the documents required for admission to their selected ETH Zurich Master’s programme. They must also submit the additional documents required for ESOP consideration.
Document 1
Complete ETH Zurich Master’s admission application.
Document 2
Curriculum vitae containing an active telephone number.
Document 3
Academic transcripts and other documents required by the selected Master’s programme.
Document 4
A self-developed pre-proposal for the planned Master’s thesis, prepared according to ETH Zurich’s official guidelines.
Document 5
Two academic reference persons or letters when references are not already required by the selected Master’s programme.
The Master’s thesis pre-proposal must be the applicant’s own work. Proper scientific citation must be used. Plagiarism or false information can result in exclusion from admission or withdrawal of the scholarship.

ETH Zurich ESOP Scholarship 2027 How to Apply
The ESOP application is submitted together with the ETH Zurich Master’s application through the university’s official eApply system. Applicants must apply during the first application window and upload all required admission and scholarship documents.

Choose an eligible ETH Zurich Master’s programme.

Begin the online Master’s application through ETH Zurich eApply.
Step 3
Request consideration for the Excellence Scholarship & Opportunity Programme.
Step 4
Upload the Master’s thesis pre-proposal and all other required documents.
Step 5
Submit the complete application before the official deadline.
Step 6
Remain available for a possible telephone or video interview in February.

Application Deadline
The application window for students starting their Master’s programme in the 2027 autumn semester is:
Application opening date: 1 November 2026
Application deadline: 30 November 2026 at 11:59 PM CET
Late applications and applications submitted during the second Master’s admission round are not eligible for ESOP consideration. Applicants should prepare their documents and contact their academic referees well before the deadline.

ETH Zurich ESOP Scholarship 2027 Selection Process
Applications are evaluated by the admission committee responsible for each Master’s programme. Shortlisted candidates may be contacted for a telephone or video interview during February.
The final decision is made by the Rector of ETH Zurich. For the 2027–2028 academic year, ETH Zurich expects to award approximately 60 ESOP scholarships, although the final number depends on available funding.
Scholarship decisions are expected to be communicated by the end of March.
